Here’s how The One Week Character challenge works:
Once you register, you’ll receive an email letting you know what to expect during the Challenge.
The Friday before the Challenge starts, I’ll send you a project kit with our client briefs, a cheat sheet, a brush pack, and more goodies to help you prep!
Then, each weekday of the Challenge, a professional artist will teach you essential skills to enhance your original character. Apply the lessons to your character and post your progress to win prizes!
By the end of the week, you’ll have created an OC 100% from imagination!

Hi there, I'm David! 👋
I’m a professional artist with a passion for teaching aspiring artists.
When I started my art journey, I struggled so much because I lacked “skills”. The truth was, I just needed a better process. I’ve spent 10+ years honing my workflow for creating professional-quality illustrations, and in this challenge, I’m going to walk you through it.
Anyone can create EPIC characters! You just need a simple, effective process to do so. The One Week Character Challenge provides exactly that!

One Week Character is a free digital painting challenge designed to help you create your very own Original Character, in just 1 week!
It’s our way of giving back to the community, by hosting a huge 7-day online challenge on digital painting, completely free.
You start by receiving a client brief that will guide your character creation process. Then you choose a character to draw from a set of 5 descriptions that we’ll send you.
Each weekday, a professional artist will teach you the essential skills you need to create your own character!
Complete your daily homeworks and post your process to win PRIZES.
Are you passionate about art and love creating characters from your imagination? This challenge is perfect for you! Whether you’re young or old, a hobbyist or a professional, everyone is welcome to join and showcase their creativity.
The One Week Character Challenge is designed for beginner and intermediate-level digital artists.
Most people who take the challenge have some experience already with digital art and illustration, and are looking to take their skills to the next level.
Yes, we highly recommend you use a tablet to follow along with this course!
Any tablet will do – whether that’s a Huion, Wacom, Apple iPad Pro, Microsoft, or any other make. You don’t need a professional tablet to paint professional artwork!
You can follow along in any software! We’ll be using Adobe Photoshop (which we highly recommend), but you can follow along in Procreate, Krita, Clip Studio, Corel Painter, or any other software of your choice!
Nope – all lessons will be available online, so you can follow along from the comfort of your own home (or studio, if you’re fortunate enough to have one)!
